Kenji Ide

Japan

Kenji Ide (b. 1981, Yokosuka, Japan) lives and works in Tokyo. Ide’s work focuses on the relationship between people and the sense of time that surrounds them. His small works, viewed from above, evoke memories and experiences of the past as well as a diary. Using material language to turn these abstract images into objects and three-dimensional works comes close to the sensation of building with the time of each material. The wood used as material and the objects Ide finds on the street create a visually intimate effect on personal time and relationships. At the heart of Ide’s work lies the idea of giving form to ambiguous atmospheres and memories through the use of air as a structure.
