The official closing of “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022” is all about making a contract with yourself and your city. About making an agreement to live happily ever after! After the weekend of closing events, Kaunas will pass on the title of European Capital of Culture to other cities. But it will remain a city of contemporary culture. The Beast of Kaunas remains in the city and protects the contract made by the citizens.

The Contemporary Myth of Kaunas Trilogy is a journey through three major events of the European Capital of Culture programme, observing the city’s transformation from a temporary to contemporary capital. On this journey, concerts, exhibitions, performances and stories have accompanied Kaunas citizens and international audiences, inviting, educating, nurturing and reintroducing Kaunas back into a European and global cultural context.

The trilogy was launched with “The Confusion” which shattered the old mindset; the city welcomed spring with “The Confluence”, the most breathtaking weekend in its history; and the European Capital of Culture’s programme will come to a close with “The Contract”. This journey is the city’s poetic history pieced together from facts, legends, myths, and imagination.
