Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien

France

Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien (b. 1990, Paris, France) works in a variety of media including textiles, drawing, video-performance and installation.

In her work, she creates stories and poetic narratives with myriad cultural influences that result in a ‘plural identity’.

Her work is a syncretic combination of diverse elements whose symbols she explores, questioning the territories of femininity as much as the relationship to craft traditions in a modernised society.

She was selected for the FoRTE grant in 2019 and participated in the 38th EVA International Biennial (Limerick, 2018), the Artissima, the international fair of contemporary art (Turin, 2018), and the 6th ART X Lagos (Lagos, 2021). In 2023, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris hosted a solo exhibition of the artist.
