Ihosvanny Angel

Angola

Ihosvanny is a self-taught artist who divides his time between Barcelona and Luanda. His practice comprises painting, video, and installation, which he uses to apprehend the physical chaos and psychic experiences of urbanism. Luanda’s cityscape provides a constant source of material for his work: scenes of disorder and arrest are transmuted and synthesised into a reflective visual lexicon. Ihosvanny has participated in the activities with the group Os Nacionalistas in Luanda and has had more than a dozen (solo and group) exhibitions in Angola, Portugal, Brazil, Italy, Uganda, São Tomé and Príncipe, USA, and France. His work can be found in various institutional and private collections, among them: the Sindika Dokolo Foundation; Elipse Foundation; and Plmj Foundation. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Jewish Museum (New York, 2014); Museu de Arte da Moderna da Bahia (Salvador, 2012); the 11th Havana Biennial (Cuba, 2012); the Luanda Triennale (2010, 2007); and the African Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007), among others.
