The Month of La Francophonie 2021: Contemporary Canadian Art

The Office of the Embassy of Canada to Lithuania and Kaunas Biennial are delighted to invite you to an online presentation on contemporary Canadian art by the 13th Kaunas Biennial curator Josée Drouin-Brisebois.

Drouin-Brisebois will present the work of seven contemporary Canadian artists participating at the 13th Kaunas Biennial exhibition (12 November 2021 – 20 February 2022) in Kaunas, Lithuania. Kaunas Biennial is the largest international contemporary art exhibition in the Baltic region. Each edition of the Biennial is attended by over 50,000 visitors, which include high-profile international curators and experts, museum and gallery directors, art collectors and journalists. The 13th Kaunas Biennial will become a signature event, opening the “European Capital of Culture – Kaunas 2022” programme.

Drouin-Brisebois was appointed to curate the 13th edition of the event and for the first time the Biennial will include the largest number of Canadian artists, including David Altmejd, Shary Boyle, Isuma, Kapwani Kiwanga, Janet Cardiff and Georges Bures Miller, Jeremy Shaw and Althea Thauberger. J. Drouin-Brisebois will present an overview of the work by these prominent Canadian artists and will offer an exclusive insight into the upcoming 13th Kaunas Biennial exhibition.

In celebration of Francophonie Month, the event will take place in French with English and Lithuanian simultaneous interpretation.

The online event is presented by the Office of the Embassy of Canada to Lithuania, 13th Kaunas Biennial is supported by Lithuanian Council for Culture and is a part of the project “European Capital of Culture – Kaunas 2022”.
