MagiC Carpets: local artists in Kaunas

Kaunas Biennial and the project MagiC Carpets presents five interdisciplinary projects by the local artists and different communities of Kaunas city and district at the Kaunas 2022 Fluxus festival.

The project by the actress Edita Niciūtė “Eiliuoti Šilainių kiemai” (Poetry in the Yards of Šilainiai). Project invited the people of Šilainiai area to share their own poetry. The texts were read by the authors together with the professional actors.

Creative movement laboratory with the persons with disabilities centre “Korys” community. Project by the dancers Mantas Stabačinskas and Vasara Visockaitė. The aim of the project is to develop the creativity of people with disabilities through artistic movement practices, to involve them in active processes.

The Tales of Kaunas city – project by Lukas Valiauga, Justas Motuzas, Inga Galvanauskaitė and Eglė Valadkevičiūtė. An interdisciplinary project which aims to re-evaluate the work of the little-known 20th century writer Julius Kaupas and with the help of augmented reality bring his fictional character Dr. Kripštukas to life while creating an interactive city experience.

The artist, ceramicist Ieva Bertašiūtė-Grosbaha presents a project ROKIS – a performative display of a clay sculpture and stop-motion animated film, about the fictional character “Rokis”, created together with the Rokai community in Kaunas.

Artists Karolina Latvytė-Bibiano and Judita Ragauskaitė present the project about traditional Lithuanian baths known as “pirtis” – Audio pirtis (eng. Audio Bath). During the project, together with the local community of bath enthusiasts, artists join the ceremony where the sounds are recorded to reveal the true spirit of the Lithuanian bath. “Audio Bath” will tell the stories, traditions and spread some magic.
