SUMMARY:Emilija Škarnulytė: Absolute dating
DESCRIPTION:Absolute dating\, 2021 \nLasers and sound \nCommissioned for the Kaunas Biennial\, 2021 \nEmilija Škarnulytė’s immersive installation is inspired by the Kaunas Tadas Ivanauskas Zoological Museum’s displays. For her performative\, cinematic piece she brings together the poetic and scientific to create a sensory experience that investigates the philosophical concept of Deep Time and events on a geological scale. This story of survival through time\, unfolds with the choreography of artificial lights and sounds. Škarnulytė’s work evokes time travel and can be understood as a form of archeology of the future. Here\, she investigates the unknown\, including pre- and post-human evolution and adaptation\, the current intersecting structures of power and the devastating effects of climate change. \n  \nWe recommend to visit the performative installation on: 11:00\, 14:00\, 17:00 \nOn the opening weekend: 12 November 14:30\, 17:00; 13-14 November: 11:00\, 12:00\, 14:00\, 16:00\, 17:00

SUMMARY:Performance: Indrė Šerpytytė in collaboration with AURA Dance Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Indrė Šerpytytė \nHaptic\, 2021 \nperformance work with the Kaunas Dance Theatre Aura \nCommissioned for the Kaunas Biennial\, 2021 \nOver this last year\, we have been living in fear of each other — fear of getting too close. And yet many of us have suffered from a lack of touch. Both Šerpytytė’s performance Haptic and her bronze sculpture Spitting examine ideas behind “skin hunger” and the responsibilities that surround touch\, the intimacy of bodies and proximity. They consider what stories\, rituals and cultures emerge around both the invitation and prohibition of touch.

SUMMARY:Lithuanian Culture Institute presents: As A Journal magazine #1
DESCRIPTION:The Lithuanian Culture Institute presents a new journal\, * as a Journal\, for readers around the world interested in culture. \nThe guest editors of the first issue are the duo of architects and researchers Jurga Daubaraitė and Jonas Žukauskas\, who together with 26 artists\, curators and researchers from Estonia\, Great Britain\, Latvia\, Lithuania\, Finland and Germany reflected on the theme of forest\, resulting in the magazine changing from * as a Journal to Forest as a Journal. \nJurga and Jonas invite the readers to look at the forest as a man-made space that inevitably depends on its actions: “It is no longer nature\, but rather infrastructure\, an environment of natural systems that is managed\, exploited and regulated by human interventions\, technologies\, industries\, institutions and agencies.” \n“In this issue\, we analyse the practices and forces that shape and influence forest images and concepts. We ask how cultural practices expand the “optics” that help the public perceive the forest\,” share the editors of the first issue\, Jurga Daubaraitė and Jonas Žukauskas. \nPresentation by: \n Kotryna Lingienė (the editor)\n Jurga Daubaraitė ir Jonas Žukauskas (the guest editors of the first issue)\n Lina Lapelytė and Mantas Petraitis (“Currents” co-creator)\n Moderator\, journalist Indrė Kaminckaitė\n\nFor more about the journal see in here: https://tinyurl.com/bzj8nm3y\n

SUMMARY:ISUMA: Journals of Knud Rasmussen
DESCRIPTION:The 13th Kaunas Biennial “Once Upon Another Time… gyveno jie jau kitaip” presents the special film programme by ISUMA (CA). \nJanuary 23 15.00–17.00\nThe Journals of Knud Rasmussen\nDrama • 1h 53m • 2006 \nJanuary 1922. With powerful forces of a new century pressing in around them\, Danish explorer and scientist Knud Rasmussen visits the isolated camp of the great Iglulik shaman\, Aua. For Rasmussen and his protégé the young anthropologist Therkel Mathiassen\, arriving at Aua’s family camp is like falling into paradise – an arctic Garden of Eden with an intoxicating mix of spiritual and physical vitality\, joyful intelligence and exuberant generosity. What the Danes don’t realize is that Aua’s temporary fortress of beauty and tranquillity stands surrounded by the steamroller of the 20th century: the introduction of Inuit-language Christian bibles\, increasing dependence of foreign trade goods\, the first police investigation of the murder of a white man\, and the reality that nomadic Inuit can’t stay in one place – even if there’s nowhere safe to go. \n  \nTickets available before the screening at the Kaunas National Puppet Theatre \nPrice: regular ticket – 5\,00 Eur; 4\,00 Eur – for students\, seniors \nDiscount: with the ticket of the 13th Kaunas Biennial – 4\,00 Eur; 3\,00 Eur – for students\, seniors

SUMMARY:Emilija Škarnulytė: Absolute dating
DESCRIPTION:Absolute dating\, 2021 \nLasers and sound \nCommissioned for the Kaunas Biennial\, 2021 \nDuration: 7′ \nEmilija Škarnulytė’s immersive installation is inspired by the Kaunas Tadas Ivanauskas Zoological Museum’s displays. \n  \nWe recommend visiting the performative installation on: 11.00\, 12.00\, 14.00\, 16.00\, 17.00 in the Mammals Hall\, on the first floor of the Zoology museum.
