Models for a Qualitative Society, 2016/2017
With Models for a Qualitative Society Céline Condorelli invites us to reflect on how playgrounds can inform the way we engage with the world today: does the word model refer to an architectural scale prototype for possible larger carousels, or is it a reference to the playground as a blueprint for social activism? The installation features several spinning tops on a ring-fenced floor platform, as well as four prints hanging as part of a pink wall section. Central to Models for a Qualitative Society is the work of three practitioners who were active in the field of architecture and cultural activism during the second half of the 20th century: Aldo van Eyck, Lina Lo Bardi and Palle Nielsen. The work of these artists, which shares an interest in using playgrounds as systems for social change, is directly referenced in the four prints accompanying the floor installation.
