Francesca Grilli (Bologna, Italy, 1978) lives in Brussels. She uses a multidisciplinary language where the performance grows from the fields of visual art to the filed of performing festivals, touching the treatment of sound in all its forms and registers. Grilli has developed several projects around the concept of theresistant body. In the earlier performative projects the body was used as a reflection of the resistance to life, to time, to decline, in spite of everything and for everything. In her installations she begin to consider body the sculptural material, which she pushes to its limits, as she had in the past done with the body of her performers. In these last works, the resistant body gives in to or struggles against the concept of being consumed.
Her work has been exhibited in many internationals venues such as Kunstencentrum Vooruit, Gent (2019), Netwerk, Aalst (2017), Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven (2015-2017), Azione – Interazione at MAXXI Museum in Rome (2016), viceversa– Italian Pavillon at 55. Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte della Biennale di Venezia (2013), MADRE Museo d’arte contemporanea Donnaregina in Naples (2012), Serpentine Gallery, London (2010) and Manifesta7 in Bolzano (2008). Among her important solo shows/projects are Van Abbemuseum (2015-2017), MACRO Museum of Rome (2012) and The Conversation at MAM bo Museum of Bologna (2010). She has also participated in numerous performance festivals including: kunstencentrum BUDA (2019-2014), Santarcangelo Festival in Rimini (2017-2019), DO DISTURB at Palais De Tokyo in Paris (2017), Kunsthalle Osnabrueck, Germany (2017), O museu como performance at Serralves Foundation, PT (2017), Homus Novus Festival in Riga (2016), Drodesera Festival at Centrale Fies in Trento (2006/2017), Mantica at the Teatro Comandino in Cesena (2012), Romaeuropa Festival (2011), Rencontres chorégraphiques in Paris (2010), Uppsala stadteater in Sweden (2010).
