Manca Bajec
Manca Bajec (b. 1982 in Ljubljana, Slovenia) is an artist, researcher, and curator. Her interdisciplinary work creates a specific language through observation of national histories and memories, politics, space and society. Her practice is particularly concerned with analytically positioning the work within a space, building environments and atmospheres where one can interact with the artist’s thoughts and critiques of society. Her sometimes almost theatrical approach is balanced by theoretical and research-based concepts and is often complemented by a series of texts, either in the mode of accounts of experiences or through poetry and prose. In the past couple of years, she has developed a very specific interest in observing methods of public commemoration and structures
of historical revisionism in post-conflict areas, in the Balkans in particular. Her latest research focuses on the idea that contemporary art can act as an intruder in the writing of history through the redevelopment of monument-building using and re-adapting the ideologies of the counter-monument movement.
